A Novel Regional-Scale Assessment of Soil Metal Pollution in Arid Agroecosystems

چکیده

This work is a novel trial to integrate geostatistics with fuzzy logic under the geographic information system (GIS) environment model soil pollution. Soil samples from seventy-one profiles in northern Nile Delta, Egypt, and were analyzed for total concentrations of Cd, Co, Cu, Pb, Ni, Zn. Metal distribution maps generated using ordinary kriging methods. They normalized by linear non-linear membership functions (FMFs) overlain operators (And, OR, Sum, Product, Gamma). The final validated area curve (AUC) receiver operating characteristic (ROC). best-fitted semivariogram models Gaussian circular Co Zn, exponential Cu. ROC AUC analysis revealed that FMFs more effective than modeling Overall, highest value (0.866; very good accuracy) resulted applying Sum overly non-linearly layers, implying superiority this decision-making studied area. Accordingly, 92% investigated soils severely polluted. Our study would increase insight into metal pollution on regional scale, especially arid regions.

Metal Pollution Assessment in Soil Samples of Mining Area, Shahr-E-Babak, Iran

Objective: Metal concentrations in 53 soil samples of Shahr-e-Babak were determined.  Methods: Assessment of enrichment factor and geo-accumulation index revealed higher degree of contamination of Cd, Pb, and Cu in soil samples. Moreover, results of metal fractionation study revealed high amount of Cd and Pb are associated in weakly bounds may lead to environmental risk of these metals.  Result...

Assessing the pollution risk of soil Chromium based on loading capacity of paddy soil at a regional scale

The accumulation of a trace metal in rice grain is not only affected by the total concentration of the soil trace metal, but also by crop variety and related soil properties, such as soil pH, soil organic matter (SOM) and so on. However, these factors were seldom considered in previous studies on mapping the pollution risk of trace metals in paddy soil at a regional scale. In this study, the sp...

Catchment-scale spatial variability analysis of soil hydro-physical properties in a semi-arid region of Iran

Soil hydrau-physical data are important for many hydrological modelings. They are the main variables controllingthe key processes such as water and chemicals movement and transport in the soil profiles. This study was conductedin order to analyze the spatial distribution of selected soil hydrau-physcial characteristics including infiltration rate(IR), saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks), bulk...

Assessment of heavy metal pollution in soil and their implications within and around mechanic villages

Analysis of nine composite soil samples, each made of three replicate core samples and their respective background samples collected from Okigwe, Nekede and Orji automobile mechanic villages were conducted. Metal concentrations (mg/kg) above the background levels in the top 100 cm soil profile ranges as follows: 748-70,606 (± 10114.3) for iron; 99-1090 ± 251.3 for lead; 186-600 ± 180 for mangan...
